NTT DATA’s efforts in inclusive hiring recognized at the Inclusive Business Forum and Channel Asia’s Women in ICT Awards

Inclusive Business Forum

Singapore, 25 AUGUST 2022 - NTT DATA SINGAPORE was invited to be part of the recent Inclusive Business Forum, a biennial event organised by SG Enable that focuses on disability inclusion in Singapore.

The theme centred on ‘The Future of Work: Building Business Resilience and Growth’, the forum included the learning journeys from disability-inclusive employers, panel talks with industry experts and persons with disabilities (PWDs) on how to create a sustainable workforce through inclusive hiring in the wake of global talent shortage in the market.

Mr Lawrence Wong, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Finance (MOF), graced the Forum as Guest of Honour and the forum kicked off with a CEO Breakfast with employer partners and DPM. Ramanathan Krishnappan, Managing director of NTT DATA, had the opportunity to share NTT DATA’s Diversity and Inclusion global practices and give feedback on how organisations could better support inclusive hiring in the workplace. DPM in his opening address mentioned the partnership of NTT DATA and Microsoft, as one of the key partners of its MS Enabler Program:

Through its efforts, Microsoft (Singapore) has offered opportunities to many people with disabilities. One example is Raymond Zheng, who has a visual impairment. Supported by Microsoft and SG Enable, Raymond was able to participate in a fully virtual internship with Microsoft during the pandemic. And now, he is a Data Scientist with NTT Data Singapore, a Microsoft Enabler Program partner.

Raymond who has been working with NTT DATA since January, is a Data Scientist building machine learning applications, and is also part of the pre-sales team assisting enterprise clients in strategizing their business goals by maximising data. He was invited into a closed-door session with DPM Wong to talk about his experience in the workplace. NTT DATA SINGAPORE has been very supportive of hiring persons with disabilities. Throughout my interview, there were no discriminatory questions or judgement, and the questions asked were very much focused on mapping my skills and competencies to the job. Now I am very happy to say that I am part of the NTT DATA Singapore family.

Channel Asia’s Women in ICT Awards

In the latest edition of the Channel Asia’s Women in ICT Awards*, NTT DATA was nominated as a finalist for the Diversity and Inclusion category, both for company and individual. Jean Chua received the “Highly Commended” mention for D & I Individual, which recognises an influential individual who leads the way by actively advocating D & I initiatives beyond their current job responsibilities through mentoring and thought leadership. The candidate also acts as a role model for executives in their industry and beyond, driving internal and external change. The NTT DATA group truly believes in the value of inclusive hiring, not just from a business perspective. But that all employees, regardless of ability, contribute to the innovation and continued success of a company, and it is the people behind that effort. I am grateful to receive a special mention, and will continue to work harder to be a voice for disability inclusion and ensure they have a safe working place to thrive with our support.

The event saw its first in-person event at the Shangrila Hotel in Singapore, on the 23 of August, since the start of the Covid Pandemic and was attended by more than 200 key stakeholders in the technology industry.
