Conductor
Dan Ettinger
The Israeli born Dan Ettinger is one of the internationally acclaimed talented young conductors of his generation.
Since the beginning of the 2009/2010 season he has been General Music Director of the Nationaltheater Mannheim and in 2010 he was appointed Chief Conductor of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. In addition Dan Ettinger serves as Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Israel Symphony Orchestra since September 2005.
Due to his tremendous versatility and autodidactic skills Dan Ettinger turned towards conducting from singing, being deeply inspired especially by artists such as Daniel Barenboim, Sergiu Celibidache and Herbert von Karajan. The first opportunity came through an engagement as house conductor and chorus master at the Israeli Opera in Tel-Aviv.
In the year 2003 Dan Ettinger was invited by General Music Director Daniel Barenboim to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin.
Further stations in his international career have been in the 2004/2005 season his successful USA debut with Aida at the Los Angeles Opera. In 2007 he first stood on the podium of the Wiener Staatsoper conducting a production of L'Elisir d'Amore. Following an invitation of Placido Domingo he returned to the USA to musically lead Martha Domingo's La Traviata at the Washington National Opera. With Turandot he debuted in spring 2009 at the Zurich Opera House.
Also in Japan acclaims Dan Ettinger great success. Since making his debut in 2004 with Falstaff, he has been a welcome guest at the New National Theatre Tokyo and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. Among the highlights of his conducting engagements at the New National Theatre Tokyo were Das Rheingold and Die Walküre in spring 2009 and the continuation of Keith Warner's "Tokyo Ring" with Siegfried and Die Götterdämmerung in spring 2010. Based of this intense and trustful cooperation with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra he took over as Chief Conductor in April 2010 to extend the existing continuous concerts activities since 2006.
A significant development in Dan Ettinger's career was his appointment as General Music Director of the Nationaltheater Mannheim as of the 2009/2010 season.
Since his appointment as Music Director and Principal Conductor in 2005 he led the Israel Symphony Orchestra to one of Israel's leading orchestras.
In 2009 he was engaged to conduct Le nozze di Figaro at the Metropolitan Opera New York. With David McVicar's Rigoletto took place in autumn 2010 his celebrated debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and in 2011 followed his first appearance at the Opéra national de Paris conducting Giorgio Strehler's legendary production of Le nozze di Figaro.
Due to his energetic and inspiring performances further engagements where announced at the Bayerische Staatsoper München with Carmen (2008/2009 and 2010/2011) and La Traviata (2009/2010) and at the Wiener Staatsoper with L'Italina in Algeri (2009/2010) and Aida (2010/2011).
His upcoming engagements, in addition to his many tasks and responsibilities in Mannheim, Tokyo and Tel-Aviv, include a return appearance at the Metropolitan Opera New York in 2012 with Turandot, as well as Carmen, La Bohème and La Traviata at the Bayerische Staatsoper München and Aida, Carmen, Otello and Tosca at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2013.
