NTT DATA CoRe Methodology
Background
So far, NTT DATA has been doing business in accordance with the specialties of each region. However, recently there is an increase in the number of customers who want to expand globally. Hence, system development at multiple locations around the world has also increased.
To efficiently proceed with the projects in which multiple locations collaborate around the world, it is important to develop the common understanding of terminologies & procedures. However, each group company had its own system development and project management methodologies. Due to which, they had different development process including terminologies. So, to work together seamlessly, from Apr 2014, members gathered together from 4 companies - NTT DATA, former NTT DATA,Inc. (North American Operating Company), former NTT DATA Global Delivery Services Limited (Delivery center in India) and former everis (Spanish Operating Company) and unified the structure, concept & terminology of development methodologies of each company. Since then, we have been working on integration as a globally common development methodology in NTT DATA.
We completed this integration in FY 2017 and we have started expanding this to NTT DATA Group all over the world.
Purpose of NDCM
At NTT DATA, by integrating development methodologies, we are aiming to further enhance the synergies across the globe and to provide System Development and IT services - such as Operations / Maintenance / Consulting, of consistent quality to the customers of any region. We are mainly aiming at the following.
Effective Use of Human Resources
By aligning system development/operations or project management procedures, system development will become possible at the global level and opportunities for collaboration between operating companies will increase. For example, previously China was mainly used as the offshore center of Japan. However, through the integration, it is possible to utilize human resources from global development centers, such as offshore development with Southeast Asia and India.
Effective Use of Development Knowledge
System development knowledge/best practices (great initiatives) of one region can be utilized at the other region. For example, quality control concept of Japan or best practices for large-scale agile development of Germany can be utilized at other regions also.
Provide high-level & consistent services in all group companies across the globe
By utilizing development methodologies, development capabilities of each center will be improved and consistent quality of services will be provided to multinational companies regardless of region. For example, upon Japanese companies' expansion to Southeast Asia and Latin America, similar quality of services will be offered to the development centers over there.
