The Challenge of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
NTT DATA strongly believes that in order to meet the demands of a rapidly changing society and continue to evolve, we need to promote more diverse perspectives through creativity and collaboration within our diverse team.
While we strive to create an inclusive workplace rich in psychological safety, we also recognize that there are challenges in achieving true Diversity, Equity & Inclusion. These challenges include unconscious biases, discrimination and systemic barriers that prevent individuals from reaching their full potential. NTT DATA is determined to do whatever it takes to overcome these challenges.

Gender
For more than 20 years, NTT DATA has focused on empowering female employees and supporting their growth throughout their careers. To ensure that women, whose careers are most likely to be affected by life events, can continue to be active, we offer a variety of training programs to support their careers. We also introduce them to internal role models and provide mentoring to help them think about their own careers.
We will continue to work toward narrowing the gender gap throughout the organization and achieving true gender equality.
Women's Initiative
We are promoting Diversity, Equity & Inclusion throughout NTT DATA Group through sessions on active roles of women in society and business in "NTT DATA Global Conference" where leaders from around the world gather.
Aiming toward the society where we no longer need to use the phrase, "women's
initiative"
featuring initiatives by NTT DATA Romania
NTT DATA extends arms around the world today. Among many, NTT DATA Romania keeps its women proportion on
management level the highest.
Maria Metz, the newly appointed CEO of NTT DATA Romania, introduces strong passion behind the initiative and
some of the actions they take to tackle the issue.
Here at NTT DATA Romania we foster a gender-friendly and diversity leadership selection. Our Leadership Team and the leadership style it promotes is the living proof.
With an average of 40% women in management roles as well as in total number of colleagues, gender balance has never been an issue, but the normality.
I take this opportunity to express our on-going commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives, and to better understand our roles to impact meaningful change. We are committed to continuing our ability to deliver opportunity and enrichment for all because we know that diversity will help us deliver the best.
Activities of WEPs
In March 2019, we signed the WEPs (*), which globally leads the promotion of women's careers and the development of business, to express our support for their principles and our willingness to promote their efforts together globally.
(*)WEPs(Women's Empowerment Principles)
- The Women's Empowerment Principles are a collaboration of UN Women and UN Global Compact (UNGC). The principles help guide private-sector actions that promote gender equality. The seven specific principles outlines steps that businesses can take to empower women in the workplace, marketplace and community.
International Women's Day Initiatives
In 1975, the United Nations designated March 8 as "International Women's Day" as a day of international solidarity
and unified action to improve the status of women and eliminate discrimination against all women.
This day originated from a demonstration in New York in 1904, which called for women's suffrage.
NTT DATA celebrates this day to honor the courage and determination displayed by women who have played such an
important role.
Upgrading Childcare and Nursing Care Systems for All Employees
NTT DATA aims to be the "Best Place to Work," and we provide maximum support so that each and every employee can live and work the way they want to. NTT DATA also offers a rich environment that supports a variety of work styles, including remote work.
We have various supporting systems in place and are implementing initiatives to support childcare. One example is a partnership with a childcare facility so that employees with children can work with peace of mind. We also encourage all employees, regardless of gender, to participate in childcare. For example, we encourage male employees to take childcare leave.
In terms of nursing care support, we have offered a leave period that can be used to prepare for nursing care, and since 2011, we have made available a remote nursing care support service provided by the NPO "Umi wo Kangaeru Care no Te" to directly support employees who are taking on nursing care responsibilities at home. We also discuss these efforts at our quarterly nursing care seminars to provide a wide range of information to employees and raise their awareness.
LGBTQ+ and Sexual Minority Initiatives
NTT DATA is also promoting initiatives related to LGBTQ+ and other sexual minorities by creating an environment in which all employees, regardless of sexual orientation, can play an active role.
Following an encouraging message sent from senior management, starting in FY2018, we have expanded the application of all systems related to spouses and their families to include same-sex partners and others. In addition, as a result of our efforts, including holding workplace study sessions to promote understanding, establishing a consultation service, holding annual LGBTQ+ seminars, and expressing our action guidelines for “allies,” straight supporters of LGBTQ+ rights, the number of "allies" has exceeded 640.
As a member of NTT Group, we have exhibited a booth and participated in the Tokyo Rainbow Pride Parade, the largest LGBTQ+ event in Japan, as well as other pride parades in various locations.
Moving Towards a Barrier-Free Society
To help employees with disabilities realize their potential, NTT DATA has sought to create various work opportunities through NTT DATA DAICHI Corporation, a special subsidiary established in July 2008. At NTT DATA DAICHI, we carry out web accessibility diagnostic services, in-house document delivery, review and approval of application forms, convenience store back-office operations, office disinfection and sterilization, and PDF document conversion.
Moreover, as our respective businesses expand, we continue to recruitment in collaboration with vocational training schools for people with disabilities.
We are working towards a society in which people with and without disabilities can play an active role together.
