NTT DATA has offered me the opportunity to achieve my goals and make a difference.
Tell us about an interesting project.
I started off as a graduate hire in a consulting analyst role, and after about a year, thanks to some really positive mentoring and training, I was promoted to a consulting position. It was a nice surprise to see how application to work can be rewarded at NTT DATA. I was really humbled to be chosen though and now throw myself into my current role fully in the Payments domain.
Speaking of Payments, the project that has been most memorable for me so far has been in the creation of an Agile and Dynamic location strategy for a well-known bank in Ireland. This kind of project was new for me and so it was very important to learn on the job. To that end I was able to collaborate with delivery executives from the U.S. to learn how to deliver an Agile project for our clients. Additionally, I gained insight into how to work with various banks in U.K., E.U. and APAC which meant I was able to assist with the creation and ideation of an Adaptive Location model that suited our client’s needs. This was such a great primer for me into this domain, which is why the project is so memorable.
Describe a regular working day.
This is my first job since leaving university, so I don't have a huge experience in comparing working in the office to working at home. However, I do tend to spend most of my time at home, which suits me very well. The reason why I like it is because I touch base with clients and coworkers in different time zones and different countries. I like to be able to manage my time in the most efficient way, so I am thankful that I have a lot of flexibility in my working style and schedule.
Practically, if I know that meetings will start later in the day, I can flip my working schedule upside down and take the morning for myself to do things like reading, talking with my family or exercising. In that way I know I can get my work done and make sure I have a great work-life balance too.
Why do you like life at NTT DATA?
There are many things that have impressed me so far at NTT DATA beyond my expectation. Firstly, I had no experience in technology consulting, and if you had asked me a few years ago if I would work in such a field, I would have laughed out loud. However, having the opportunity to be mentored by a great group of people when I first arrived combined with really useful training programs helped me to settle in fast and get into meaningful work, and now I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
Of course, the people I work with are great, they gave me so much support and guidance. In addition to that I have had the opportunity to do things that I could never dream of such as attending the Fintech Fest in Mumbai. Not only was I able to rub shoulders with other leading industry people, but I could also attend great talks and achieve a personal goal of visiting Mumbai. It’s been a great start to my career at NTT DATA.
